I had the same problem in my '97 OBW this past summer, popped off the plastic top of the IAC and found the top of the shaft to be splintered. A temporary fix

Sort of. I'm not sure how the alternator is setup on a Subaru. The thing is, the windings and such of an alternator don't fail, just the stuff on the back side
