Reliability of hybrids   Message List

I also subscribe to the Yahoo group dedicated to the Prius. It seems
there are never ending complaints on that group. Anything from the car
suddenly dying completely to problems with the lights and keys and
fluid levels.

It's enough that it has turned me away from thoughts on the Prius. Has
Toyota tried to do too much with that car? Too many new technologies
at once? I don't know but I do know I need a car that I can rely on as
I use it for work.

What are YOUR opinions on the reliability of YOUR car? Are the Honda's
giving anyone problems? Do you have a different perception of the
Prius?

I may be replacing my 10 year old (150K) Accord in the near future and
I am not sure whether or not I want to go hybrid at this time.

Thank you.

The thing I like about the Honda cars is that they don't need the electric portion to work. If my Insight is at 200,000 miles & the battery or motor cease...

Well my opinion about the two makers is excellent. I own a 2003 Honda Insight CVT that makes 53 mpg in average (City and Highway combined) and also own a 2006...

... There's nothing special about the Toyota hybrids that can't be done by a competent DIY or local garage, either. Only there is no timing belt. ;-) But if...
