I already replied to this question over on the USENET group

NJ does a 4 year advance registration fee on new vehicles.
The registration fee is based on the vehicle's weight.
http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/Vehicle/Fees.htm
and the important point is that it is an extra $25/year to register a
car that is over 3500 lbs as opposed to under 3500 lbs.
The Camry's curb weight is listed at:
http://www.toyota.com/camry/specs.html
The Camry hybrid's curb weight is 3650 lbs, while the non-hybrid
versions are 3263-3373 lbs. So, yes, the registration fee would be a
little higher for the hybrid Camry, because it is over the 3500lb
trigger point while the non-hybrid Camrys are less than the 3500lb
trigger point. (It's not a higher fee because it's a hybrid, but
because the vehicle is heavier.)
So, for the extra weight class @ $25/year, times the 4 year advanced
fee schedule in NJ, that would be an extra $100 that you'd owe the
state.
